Basel is a charming city that is popular with students and postdocs.
The university of Basel is the oldest in Switzerland and one of the oldest in Europe. Its physics department is among the top physics departments in Europe and offers an exciting environment for world class research.
A PhD positions is at present available. The group of Prof. S. Goedecker focuses on the development of new algorithms for atomistic simulations and density functional calculations. Applications are primarily in the field of structure prediction and materials discovery. Candidates for the position are not only expected to have a good physical/chemical understanding of condensed matter systems but also excellent mathematical and programming skills.
